Far East Organization launches Baker X Singapore baking studio and café at the buzzing Orchard Central mall in Orchard Road. From 20 December 2021, Baker X will feature a line-up of home-based bakers who will take up residency of two to six weeks. With the aim of supporting bakers who wish to explore scaling up into full-fledged outlets, Far East Organization provides a business opportunity through Baker X – a fully-fitted baking studio and café operated in tandem with social enterprise, Foreword Coffee Roasters.

Baker X Singapore – Encouraging Retail Diversity

Far East Organization recognises that small businesses are the heart of Singapore’s communities and the backbone of our economy. Led by the belief to inspire better lives, the Organization re-evaluated the role of retail spaces to provide innovative formats for entrepreneurs to extend their click to brick presence, leading to the inception of Baker X.

“With this unique concept, we seek to give budding home-baking entrepreneurs a chance to run their operations at a physical outlet at no costs and to scale their production. Customers will gain access to their favourite home-based bakers, interacting with them and trying their bakes, including their new items, first- hand in a café setting,” said Ms Deborah Tan, Deputy Director, Retail Business Group, Far East Organization.

Added Deborah, “Baker X also aims to encourage the entry of new brands to the mall by providing customers with more choices, promoting greater diversity and enhances the retail ecosystem in Singapore.”

The baking studio and café at Orchard Central features an industrial-chic interior design with table and counter seating for up to 10 guests. The baking studio is fully fitted with appliances from brands such as the leading Swiss household name, V-ZUG. Baker X is operated by the baker-in-residence, complemented by Foreword Coffee Roasters – a social enterprise that aims to provide an inclusive work environment for neurodiverse individuals.

Kicking off the project is White’s Bakery, operating from 20 December 2021 to 9 January 2022. Customers can look forward to having a taste of their signature creamy Basque Cheesecake (large slice from $10 / 6-inch 1kg whole cake from $38) that is rich in flavour yet lighter in sweetness, such as the Original, Matcha, Hojicha, Earl Grey, Taro, and Lotus Biscoff Cookie Butter. Also hot on the menu are Korean Fat Macarons (any 6 for $30) with a crisp and delicate shell for those with a sweet tooth. During this festive season, the signature Korean fat macarons are available in special Christmas flavours, which include Peppermint Mocha, Toffee Nut, and Hot Chocolate, inspired by the ever-popular festive drinks created by a famous coffee chain.

“I have always wanted to open my own physical store where I can personally meet my lovely customers, have a little chat with them and get to know them better. Having this pop-up is a great opportunity for me to do so, that I couldn’t let it slip. Through this experience, I hope to gain a wider audience, more exposure, experience from running this physical space and of course, a closer bond with my customers,” said 23-year- old Ms Tan Hui Yi, founder of White’s Bakery.

Baker X at Orchard Central is a second home to talented home-based bakers and welcomes customers from 11am to 10pm or till the bakes sell out for the day.
