A Stimulant by Sarnies Bangkok – Singapore House-roasted Coffee Beans Now In Thailand

A Stimulant by Sarnies Bangkok has finally brought Singapore’s famed A Stimulant by Sarnies (ASBS) house-roasted coffee beans and its café arm Sarnies to the Thai Capital. The caffeine experience has manifested in the form of a full in-house coffee roaster, alongside a cosy little coffee bar tucked in Sukhumvit Soi 39. If you are heading over, you may also want to check out our post on Most Instagrammable Cafes in Bangkok.

Singaporeans heading to Bangkok for a quick getaway can now get the same quality coffee fix from Sarnies. The space includes a full roaster with a dedicated team of baristas from ASBS churning out freshly roasted beans every week.

Known for supplying wholesale coffee beans into food & beverage concepts, the team ensures that all coffee beans arrive fresh at the respective outlets with frequent small batch roasting and strict quality control. Blends available in Thailand include Picks & Shovels (Laos, Thailand and Brazil) and Costa Rica Carrizal Community – including coffee beans from Thailand in support of the locals.

ASBS was conceptualised by the founder of Sarnies in Singapore, Benjamin Lee. Sarnies, slang for sandwich, serves up hearty Aussie style grub throughout the day along with its signature coffee. A sandwich and a cup of coffee is a combination that goes perfectly, and it was important to maintain the consistency and quality of coffee served in his flagship café.

With that, Ben decided that bringing coffee roasting in-house was one of the best ways to do that, and eventually extended the coffee roasting into the full-fledged coffee arm of Sarnies that it is today.

The team has also expanded to provide wholesale coffee solutions for other establishments in Singapore and Bangkok, as well as a coffee consultancy service that includes everything from setting up coffee within the establishment, barista training, and machinery support.

For a taste of A Stimulant by Sarnies’ specialty roasted coffee, the coffee bar in Bangkok will be open to the public from Wednesdays to Sundays, 9am to 5pm. Coffee roasting will take place on Mondays and Tuesdays, and the coffee shop will be closed.

Address: 113 Phop Mit Alley, Khwaeng Khlong Tan Nuea, Khet Watthana, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10110 | Opening Hours: 9am – 5pm (Wed – Sun) | Website: www.astimulantbysarnies.comFacebook: A Stimulant By Sarnies Bangkok | Instagram: @astimulantbysarnies

  • Best Bangkok Night Markets For Your Ultimate Retail Therapy In Thailand

Best Bangkok Night Markets For Your Ultimate Retail Therapy In Thailand

Bangkok is indisputably one of Singaporeans’ favourite short getaway destinations. Other than the temples, shopping malls, themed cafes and amazing massages, night markets are an attraction that is not to be missed when you are in the Thai Capital. The best night markets in Bangkok always command a carnival-like atmosphere and are great spots to check out local products ranging from skilled artisans’ crafts and second-hand vintages to mass-produced cheap factory items. To help you on your night market exploration, here are some of the best Bangkok Night Markets you must visit on your next trip to Thailand!

    1. Best Bangkok Night Markets – Talad Neon Night Market

Strategically located beside The Palladium (opposite of the famous Kaiton Chicken Rice) and just diagonally opposite The Platinum Fashion Mall, Talad Neon is considered a relatively new night market in the popular district of Pratunam.

A post shared by AuSLeY kong江?♌ (@ausley) on

This funky, youthful market consists of orderly lined shipping containers stalls selling a variety of fashion, homeware and other trinkets. The use of shipping containers is a pretty new concept for Thailand. It was originally made popular by Art Box pop-up market and continued by Talad Neon. Over 1,000 stalls are expected when the market gets fully operational so there is definitely activities to keep you occupied the entire night there.

Address: 1087 New Petchaburi Road, Khwaeng Makkasan, Khet Ratchathewi, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10400, Thailand | Opening Hours: 4pm – 12am (Wed to Sun)

A post shared by maria (@mariabluexxx) on

    2. Best Bangkok Night Markets – Palladium Night Market Pratunam

Despite the lack of trains servicing the Pratunam area, this is still one of the most well-known shopping districts in Bangkok. After Platinum Fashion Mall and the street markets opposite at Pratunam Market close at 8pm, make your way over to Palladium Night Market to continue your shopping experience. This place is a haven for anything customised ranging from printed T-shirts and bags to bracelet or mobile phone casing! This night market also sells clothing at wholesale prices, making it one of the must-go places for cheap buys.

Address: 487 Phetchaburi Rd, Khwaeng Makkasan, Khet Ratchathewi, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10400, Thailand | Opening Hours: 6pm – 11pm (Tues – Sun)

A post shared by Jian (@yjian_) on

    3. Best Bangkok Night Markets – Hua Mum Night Market

Hua Mum Night Market is pretty much a night market patronised by local Thai people. We recommend that you go with a local Thai friend as text and conversations are in Thai and you are likely to be the only non-local there. Located opposite The Walk Kaset-Nawamin, you may want to take a cab over otherwise the nearest BTS would be Lad Phrao station.

Address: 11 Kaset-Nawamin Road, Lat Phrao, Bangkok 10230 | Opening Hours: 6pm – 12pm (Daily). Closed On Mondays.

    4. Best Bangkok Night Markets – Asiatique The Riverfront

Asiatique is probably the most popular night market in Bangkok but we do find it rather touristy. Compared to the other night markets, it has a much nicer ambience and products are aesthetically placed for easy browsing. However, the higher rental these stall owners pay does translate to higher prices. So be prepared to pay slightly more for a more upmarket retail experience.

Besides checking out the shops, make time for The Calypso Show or Muay Thai Live and chill over some food and beer by the river. Avoid the jams by taking the free shuttle boat from BTS Saphan Taksin and take the chance to tour the Chao Phraya River too!

Address: 2194 Charoen Krung Rd, Khwaeng Wat Phraya Krai, Khet Bang Kho Laem, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10120, Thailand | Opening Hours: 5pm to 12mn (Daily)

    A post shared by Nat-sone (@nat_travelgram) on

    5. Best Bangkok Night Markets – Talad Rot Fai 1 (Srinakarin)

Originally located at Kamphaeng Phet, this market has moved to Srinakarin Soi 51, which is next to Seacon Square Mega Shopping Mall. If you adore vintage items and antiques, you will definitely love this place. Talad Rot Fai does not only attract the city’s stylish hipsters but all age groups as well. It is a popular hangout area for friends and families.

    Address: Soi Srinakarin 51, Srinakarin Rd, Bangkok 10250 | Opening Hours: 5pm – 1am (Thurs – Sun)

A post shared by RED芮德 (@redahaolic) on

    6. Best Bangkok Night Markets – Talad Rot Fai 2 (Ratchada)

Talad Rot Fai Ratchada is the smaller but much more accessible version of Talad Rot Fai Srinakarin. It is located just behind Esplanade Shopping Mall and can be reached via MRT (Thailand Cultural Center). Although they are open on Tuesday & Wednesday as well, not all the stalls are open. This is a good option if you are not keen to travel out or on a tight schedule.

Address: Ratchadaphisek Road Bangkok | Opening Hours: 5pm – 1am (Tues – Sun)

A post shared by Celest Lim (@celest.lim) on

    7. Best Bangkok Night Markets – Talad Rot Fai 3 (Kaset-Nawamin)

We are not exactly sure why they all like to go by the name ‘Talad Rot Fai’ but this is the third night market with the same name. It takes on the theme of train town with containers by the corners of the market. Kasem-Nawamin is bigger than Ratchada but is not as accessible as you can only reach it by cab.

    Address: 10230, Kaset-Nawamin Road, Nawamin, Bueng Kum, Bangkok 10230 | Opening Hours: 5pm – 1am (Thurs – Sun)

A post shared by sana ? (@_37rin_) on

    8. Best Bangkok Night Markets – Chatuchak Friday Night Market

The crazy retail scene at Chatuchak starts on Friday night but you should only head down after 10pm. Only stalls that are located along the sides of Chatuchak Weekend Market are opened, the inner lanes are all closed. Only visit it if you really cannot make time to visit Chatuchak Weekend Market on Saturday or Sunday.

Address: Mo Chit BTS or Kampheng Phet MRT Station | Opening Hours: 10pm till late  (Friday only)

A post shared by jacobo (@jacobkho) on

    9. Best Bangkok Night Markets – Jatuchak (JJ) Green Night Market

Located just behind Jatuchak Park, JJ Green makes a good first stop before going over to Chatuchak Night Market after 10pm. The scene here is rather similar to Talad Rot Fai as many of the stalls here also carry vintage products. For weekend shoppers, JJ Green Vintage Night Market is an excellent continuation after Chatuchak Weekend Market in the afternoon. That is if you still have the stamina of course.

Address: Mo Chit BTS or Kampheng Phet MRT Station | Opening Hours: 6pm – 1am  (Thurs – Sun)

    10. Best Bangkok Night Markets – Khao San Night Market

Located in Bangkok’s backpacker area with many budget hostels, this night market has a carefree, anything-goes vibe. This night market is quite unlike anywhere else in Bangkok and so infectious is its atmosphere that it is also very popular with locals, especially young hipsters and art students. Other than the creepy crawlies snacks (we dare you to try one), there are also loads of drinking holes around and you can opt for a massage anytime you feel tired.

Address: Khao San Road Bangkok (Take a cab) | Opening Hours: 7pm – 12mn Daily

A post shared by Harshad Soman (@jugpravaasi) on

    11. Best Bangkok Night Markets – Liab Duan Night Market

Liab Duan is yet another locals’ night market. Despite a relatively inaccessible location, flocks of tourists still head over to experience the ways of the locals. You can expect the vibe and the stalls variety to be similar to that of Hua Mum Night Market. Do try to avoid Mondays as some shop owners may want to take a day off.

Address: 5, 35/54 Pradit Manutham Road, Nuanchan, Bueng Kum, Bangkok 10230, Thailand (Take a cab) | Opening Hours: 6pm – 2am Daily

A post shared by Doris Yap (@lo_olipok) on

    12. Best Bangkok Night Markets – Victory Monument Night Market

The last of the ‘permanent’ night markets. We suppose this is where you can go if you have already exhausted all the night markets mentioned earlier.  You will be able to shop from many stalls selling cheap fashion clothes, mass-produced accessories as well as quality vintage bags, handmade accessories and much more.

Address: Thanon Phaya Thai, Ratchathewi, Bangkok 10400, Thailand | Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm Daily

A post shared by ThEBesTT (@aumabestt) on

Best Bangkok Night Markets – Bangkok Pop Up Night Markets

    13. Best Bangkok Night Markets – ArtBox Bangkok

ArtBox Bangkok is probably the latest trend of night market in the Thai Capital. Instead of the usual canopy style stalls, young entrepreneurs peddle their stuffs in containers. The only issue with visiting this night market is tracking where and when they are open as they are not a permanent night market. Visit ArtBox Thailand Fan Page to see when they are opening next!

    14. Best Bangkok Night Markets – The Knack Market

The Knack Market is a pop-up night market which only opens on selected weekends (usually the last weekend of the month). While it might not be as accessible as most of the more popular night markets, it is worth checking out for novelty. Located at The Jam Factory in the Khlong San district (beside Khong San Market and Millennium Hilton Hotel), you can beat the jam by crossing the river via the shuttle boat at River City Shopping Complex.

Address: 41/1-5  Charoennakorn Road, Klongsan Bangkok Bangkok | Opening Hours: 4pm – 9pm (Usually only last weekend of the month)

#15. Best Bangkok Night Markets – TGIFest (The Garden of TFest)

Similar to The Knack Market, TGIFest (The Garden of TFest) is a new pop-up night market in Bangkok which has recently just started in May 2017. The night market is located at Fragrant Park right beside Sukhumvit Soi 36 and is accessible by BTS Thonglor. The ambience and product offering is rather similar to ArtBox. It is important for you to check TGIF Market Facebook Fan Page for its next run before heading down.

  • 12 Must Eat Thai Street Food When Visiting Bangkok, Thailand

12 Must Eat Thai Street Food When Visiting Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok is not just a shopping paradise for ladies. The Thai Capital is also famous for its amazing delicacies both in restaurants and on the streets. First time tourist to Bangkok would probably be overwhelmed by the vast selection and it may be quite a feat to try out all these delicious street food over the two or three days when are in the city. To help you on your Bangkok street food adventure, here are our recommendation of the 12 Must Eat Street Food when visiting Bangkok, Thailand.

    1. Crispy Pancake (Kanom Bueang)

This is really one of the very first street food we had when we visited Bangkok for the very first time! Kanom Bueang is a small, thin piece of crispy snack for the locals, just sufficient to satisfy your cravings for something sweet to munch without feeling too full. There are variations to this crispy pancake as they come in sweet or savoury fillings/toppings such as shredded coconut, chopped scallions or fried eggs / egg yolks.

Eat It At: MBK Mall Level 4, Talad Rot Fai Srinakarin & Asiatique

    2. Sweet Potato Balls (Kanom Kai Nok Krata)

Kanom Kai Nok Krata is a Thai street food that is a cross between a dessert and a snack. Khai Nok Krata means quail’s egg because they are of similar size. The main ingredients are sweet potatoes and tapioca starch, mixed well and deep fried until have golden brown colour.

Eat It At: Pratunam Night Market, Night Market outside Central World & Silom Night Market

A post shared by @alita7123 on

    3. Pandan Sweetmeat / Kueh (Kanom Krok Bai Toey)

Kanom Krok Bai Toey in Bangkok is made by roasting it over a cast iron griddle called kanom krok, which is placed on top of burning hot coals. Made with flour, coconut sugar, and pandan leaf extract (which gives off a bright green colour and a heavenly aroma), this street snack has a chewy and fluffy texture and we love that it is not overly sweet. It makes the perfect snack while roaming the streets of Bangkok.

Eat It At: Train Market Ratchada (Ratchadaphisek Road, Dindaeng); Wang Lang Market (Soi Wang Lang, Siriraj); and Siam Pandan (Pathum Wan, Bangkok – besides Novotel Siam Square).

A post shared by Teong S. (THA) (@i_teong) on

    4. Thai Style Fried Chicken (Gai Tod)

We adore Gai Tod! Folks who have tried it before swear that it is better than your usual fast food restaurants! When you are in Bangkok, just throw your diet out of the window and go for one more piece!

Eat It At: Pratunam Night Market, Night Market outside Central World, Silom Night Market.

A post shared by KTAN (@kristinthx) on

    5. Thai Grilled Pork On Skewers (Moo Ping)

Thai Grilled Pork on Skewers are amazing because the Thai people still stick to the traditional ways of using charcoal to cook this dish. You get sweet, succulent and tender piece of pork served on a stick and delivered with dried chilli dipping sauce, one of the common accompaniments. Moo Ping Hea Owen is a stall that is recommended by the locals but there are other good options around the Pratunam area.

Eat It At: Silom Soi Convent, Central Embassy or Pratunam Night Market.

    A post shared by #foodculinary (@food.culinary) on

    6. Grilled Honey Roast Pork (Moo Yang)

Should it surprise anyone that pork neck or collar is one of the favourite cuts among the Thai? Blessed with just the right amount of lean meat, muscle, and fat, a well marinated Grilled Honey Roast Pork is so flavorful that everyone will find it hard to resist reaching out for another piece. The locals recommend Moo Yang Nam Peung at Chatuchak Weekend Market but we feel that these sweet succulent meats can be found at most night markets.

Eat It At: Moo Yang Nam Peung, Chatuchak Weekend Market, Area 22, Soi 4.

    A post shared by Sedth.T. (@act1988) on

    7. Thai Fried Noodles (Pad Thai)

Pad Thai is probably the global ambassador for Thai cuisine. These simple stir-fried rice noodles are almost certainly one of the best-known Thai dishes worldwide. Many Thai folks would probably tell you that if the kitchen gets their Pad Thai right, they probably know their stuff. We recommend going to Pad Thai Sala Daeng or Thip Samai Pad Thai to sample this dish but you can find it at any Thai restaurants or night markets.

Eat It At: Pad Thai Sala Daeng  (Silom, Sala Daeng Soi 2), Thip Samai Pad Thai & most night markets

A post shared by Umbo (@arnelumboh) on

    8. Tom Yum Goong Noodles

Tom Yum Goong is Thailand’s official national noodle soup. You can probably find this dish at any Thai restaurants and night market but the many say that the best can be found at Pee Aor. So it really depends on how far you are prepared to go hunting down the perfect Tom Yum Goong Noodles.

Eat It At: Pee Aor, 68/51 Soi Phetchaburi 5 or any restaurants & night market street stalls.

    9. Boat Noodles (Kway Teow Rua)

These noodles used to be only found at the floating markets of Thailand but they have since ventured ashore. The noodles contain both pork and beef, as well as dark soy sauce, pickled bean curd and some other spices, and is normally served with meatballs and pig’s liver. Sutyot Kuetiau Lua Payak at Victory Monument is where locals will recommend if you are looking for authentic, delicious Boat Noodles.

Eat It At: Sutyot Kuetiau Lua Payak, Victory Monument

A post shared by Mr. Gastronome (@mr_gastronome) on

    10. Thai Duck Rice / Noodles

Duck Rice / Noodles can be found everywhere in Bangkok. However, the locals will point you to Kway Teow Pead Yang Balampoo. The herbal clear duck soup was made with more than 10 herbs and is the perfect complement to the roast duck. You should try their braised duck wings when you are there too!

Eat It At: Kway Teow Pead Yang Balampoo and other night markets

    11. Braised Pork Trotter Rice / Wanton Noodles

Braised Pork Trotters Rice and Wanton Noodles are so well-loved by Singaporeans that everyone must die-die have one whenever they visit Bangkok. You can opt for an individual portion of rice topped with tender braised pork leg and garnishing or you can also take on the ultimate Thai braised pork leg experience by ordering the entire leg.

Eat It At: Pratunam, Silom night market

A post shared by Yi Tan (@yipinglovewen) on

    12. Fried Banana Pancake (Roti Gluay)

We put this as our last item because we see it as one of the best street desserts to end a delicious evening. Similar to our familiar roti prata, this pan-fried dough dish is topped with condensed milk and a variety of options as honey, nutella, chocolate, coconut, sugar and much more – depending on your preference. It looks as good as it tastes, sinful to the max!

Eat It At: Pratunam Night Market, Khao San, Silom Night Market.

We hope you like our introduction of 12 Must Eat Thai Street Food in Bangkok. As you hunt down these street food, do note that many of these street food stalls move around different spots hence they may not be available at the same place the very next day. We would love it if you can share your personal experience in the comments section below too!
