Where is Utah?

In the west of the United States, Utah is a state known for its vast desert landscapes and of course, the Wasatch Range mountains. Across these epic deserts and mountains, spectacular hotels, lodges and cabins in Utah are available to the travelling tourist.

The capital of Utah is Salt Lake City, which is central to the Temple Square, which is home to the Mormon Church headquarters. If your’e excited about churches and grand designs, this site hosts  a majestic temple & tabernacle, with a massive dome and home to a great choir. The waters of the Great Salt Lake attract sunbathers and swimmers alike.

Travelling to Utah & How To Get Around

You can travel to Utah by train, bus, plane or simply drive. But you might have no idea of how to get around. Renting a car is an option but there are also public transport options, especially along the populous & thriving Wasatch Front. Utah’s capital city and Salt Lake City International Airport are at the epicentre of the Wasatch Front. Both of these are connected with a convenient light rail system. From there then, you have a number of options.

There is a Greyhound network serving Utah and Amtrak’s California Zephyr cuts right through the state, serving a number of Utah stops along the way from Chicago to San Fran. The UTA serves the Wasatch Front with a regular light rail, commuter rail and bus schedules. FrontRunner commuter rail connects Salt Lake to both Ogden (north) and Provo (south), with TRAX light rail serving Salt Lake County covering the airport to city route in just 20 minutes.

5 Places To Go In Utah

1. Zion National Park

This is a southwest Utah nature preserve distinguishable by the steep red cliffs of Zion Canyon. The Zion Canyon Scenic Drive slices through its main section, moving on then to forest trails right along the Virgin River. This river flows to Emerald Pools, which have beautiful waterfalls & a hanging garden. There is also a wading hike along the river, which is partly through deep chasms.

2. Lake Powell

Created in 1963, the vast blue lake surrounded by magnificent sandstone walls caused by the Glen Canyon Dam holding back the Colorado River created this iconic landmark. Astonishingly, 17 years is the length of time taken to fill the canyon up to the watermark of 3700′ above sea level. This created America’s second man-made lake.

3. Deer Valley

Deer Valley has grown a name for itself in revolutionising ski services and really try to provide a great vacation experience for guests. 4. The Great Salt Lake

Based in North Utah, The Great Salt Lake and its encompassed islands provide spectacular scenery & leisure opportunities. Breathtaking sunsets over the lake are a common sight. The evening sky sees amazing hues of oranges, reds, magentas and lavenders slowly dissolving before darkness. The lake attracts sailors and fishermen, while its white sand beaches are popular amongst swimmers & sunbathers. Antelope Island and some of the shoreline areas draw in the hikers and mountain bikers seeking an adventurous trail.

5. Utah Olympic Park

Built for the 2002 Winter Olympics, the Utah Olympic Park is a winter sports park, located 28 miles east of Salt Lake City near Park City in Utah. Getting here takes just 30 minutes from Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). If you are travelling by car, it is located just off Exit number 145 on Interstate 80, at Kimball Junction. There is a new shuttle service now running from the Transit Center near Summit County Library at Kimball Junction, to the Park for 363 days of the year! Running daily from 8am until 7pm, on the hour makes the shuttle ideal for commuters.

As you can see, travelling to and staying in Utah and finding stuff to do on your Utah vacation won’t be a problem at all with it’s connected transportation links and hives of activities to choose from. This truly is one of the great winter sports destinations in the world, with many breathtaking views and landscapes, suitable for all of the family.
