Peranakan Art At Four Points By Sheraton Phuket Patong Beach Resort

Four Points by Sheraton Phuket Patong Beach Resort is all set to welcome you and your loved ones into the vibrant world of local art and design when it opens next month, by showcasing original works by some of Phuket’s brightest creative talents.

Four Points By Sheraton Phuket Patong Beach Resort – Latest Addition To Patong

Nestled in the heart of North Patong, just steps from the sandy beach, Four Points by Sheraton Phuket Patong Beach Resort features 600 contemporary rooms and suites, including Pool Access options and colourful Kids’ Rooms, plus three outdoor pools, five restaurants and bars including a beach club, fitness centre, kid’s club, playground and extensive event space, making it a great choice for couples, friends, families and groups.

Four Points By Sheraton Phuket Patong Beach Resort – Peranakan Art By Talented Local Artists

This brand new international resort, which is scheduled to soft-open on 1st October 2020, has formed a partnership with Artslonga, an acclaimed designer who specialises in eye-catching artworks, murals, prints and sculptures that reflect Phuket’s Peranakan heritage. It has also harnessed the skill and vision of young graduates from Silapakorn University, who were invited to paint the walls with authentic designs.

The result is that the hotel feels like a living gallery – the grand home of a global traveller who has collated an amazing array of exquisite artworks and wants to show them off to the world. The lobby area feels like an enchanting flower garden, providing a warm welcome to every visitor. Then, as you stroll through the resort, you will be able to admire a collection of almost 70 paintings and sculptures. Ornamental vases are displayed in the corridors of each floor, reflecting the traditional style of a Phuket home, and images of classical ceramics adorn the restaurants.

Artslonga has already been commissioned for a series of prestigious art projects, including ICONSIAM, the landmark riverside development in Bangkok. She was joined by 15 up-and-coming Thai artists, all of whom have recently graduated with Master’s degrees. One of the students, Supim Woratat, received the Gold Medal in the 36th Bualuang Painting Exhibition for her piece, “Chinese Painting Style Shelves”.

Four Points By Sheraton Phuket Patong Beach Resort – Reflecting Local Heritage

Phuket’s Peranakan culture was created by the arrival of Chinese immigrants, predominantly of Hokkien ancestry, who originally came to work in the island’s tin mining industry. They retained their unique traditions, which are reflected in the local art and architecture – especially in the elegant shophouses of Phuket’s Old Town. Today, it is estimated that approximately 70 per cent of Phuket’s population has Peranakan roots.

Come discover the resort’s timeless blend of international hospitality and local art and culture from 1st October 2020!

  • Planning A Luxury Family Break To Thailand

Planning A Luxury Family Break To Thailand

There are some trips on our travel bucket lists that have to wait. There are places that we’ll happily leave until the kids have left home and we can go off on an adult-only adventure. A trip to Thailand doesn’t have to be one of them. A luxury trip to Thailand can be the perfect family getaway. With waterparks, animal sanctuaries, and rich culture, it’s the perfect place to explore with children and if you are looking to treat yourselves to a little luxury, there’s no better place to do it. Here are some tips to help you to plan a luxury family break to Thailand.

    Check Requirements

To enter Thailand from the majority of countries with effect from 1st July 2022, fully vaccinated visitors (2 doses) only have to travel with their passport, proof of vaccination uploaded to a web-based system, and the relative visa if your stay is longer than 30 days. Unvaccinated visitors will need to have proof of a RT-PCR test within 72 hours before departure time. Proof of accommodation and specific insurance is no longer required. However, requirements and the need for things like vaccine passports can change, so make sure you check before you travel not forgetting to check your own country’s entry rules for your return journey as these can change regularly. Upgrade Your Flights

A lack of direct flights means that the average flight time from the US to Thailand is nearly 18 hours. This is a long time for children to sit on a plane, and if you can upgrade your flights, it can make things easier and give you a way to enjoy a little luxury from the very start of your trip.

    Consider Alternatives

Of course, you don’t have to fly the whole way. If you want a different experience, or you are flying into Bangkok and staying on one of the Islands, sleeper trains and connecting boats to your chosen beach can be a fantastic option, adding a bit of adventure to your trip.

    Avoid Tourist Hotspots

Bangkok is a fantastic destination for families, with plenty to do and see, and lots of easy ways to get about. But it can be very crowded and quite overwhelming, especially for children. Booking an island villa with Thailand Retreats can be a fantastic alternative and a great way to enjoy a little luxury.

    Create an Itinerary

Whether you are staying in mainland Thailand or on one of the many wonderful islands, there’s bound to be lots that you want to do. The good news is that getting about is fairly easy for a family. Boats run regularly between the islands, flying within Thailand is fairly cheap and accessible, and the bus and train systems are very good for tourists.

The bad news is, that you are unlikely to fit everything that you want to do into one visit. Write a list of things that you’d love to do during your visit to Thailand, including things like snorkelling and diving, visiting temples, particular restaurants you’d like to try, and waterparks and other tourist attractions, and then write an itinerary. Some things you’ll be able to book online before you travel, but often you can get cheaper deals if you book locally.

    Hire a Guide

If you want to explore a particular area, especially one that’s off the beaten track, or you want to embrace the culture and visit important cultural sites, hiring a good guide is a fantastic option. They’ll help you to stay safe, give you lots of information, and add plenty of detail to your visit. They’ll also give you tips on how to spend the rest of your time in Thailand.

A luxury family break to Thailand can be an excellent idea. Filled with culture, adventure, and nature, it’s the perfect destination for any age group.

Bar.Yard At Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok – Newest Rooftop Bar With A View

Taking inspiration from a nostalgic backyard barbecue, Bar.Yard At Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok spins up a modern day-to-night urban rooftop garden and bar on the 40th floor. Elevating the rooftop bar concept, you can enjoy a repertoire of playful tropical cocktails, comfort-led classic barbecue menu featuring locally sourced farm-to-table grills, and a casual, lively atmosphere in the outdoor venue with a view, sheltered so rain is never an issue, framing well-known DJs against the verdant backdrop of Lumphini Park in the heart of central Bangkok, Langsuan.

“Kimpton® Hotels & Restaurants will open Bar.Yard at Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok as its latest bar under the brand globally. Renowned for its award-winning, seasonally-inspired restaurants and bars, the venue launch is part of our ramp up towards the opening of the first Kimpton hotel in South East Asia slated for October 2020. The new hotel under IHG’s luxury boutique brand will offer Kimpton’s signature perks including the brand’s industry-leading pet-friendly attitude, and an approachable luxury experience fueled by a team who champions heartfelt human connections,” said Patrick Both, General Manager, Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok.

Daytime at Bar.Yard presents a bright, breezy haven of lush greenery space designed by global architectural design firm Hassell, much like an oasis beneath the clouds where you can unwind to upbeat urban electronic music with tropical- and tiki-influenced cocktails and satisfying, comfort-led classic barbecues. As afternoon fades to night, the rooftop party switches up the tempo while the Bangkok skyline glitters below.

“Every Kimpton restaurant and bar is created independent from the hotel, providing a space that is warm, welcoming and inspiring with incredible cuisine and forward-thinking cocktails. Bar.Yard is our re-imagination of a backyard BBQ, with all associated elements elevated to create an immersive guest experience, including the superlative view from the 40th floor of the hotel. We focus on incorporating local elements into the restaurant experience – from decor to sourcing ingredients and trends reflective of our location here in Thailand,” said Justin Dunne, General Manager, Restaurants and Bars, Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok.

    The cocktail-centric drinks menu is crafted by Aaron J Feder, Beverage & Bars Manager. His focus on creating perfect blends is evident in the stories from behind the bar – sampling multiple lime varieties and at least 27 varieties of pineapples to create Bar.Yard’s signature drinks. Tropical and tiki influences feature heavily across the menu, with highlights like The Queens Group Pineapple, a tequila-based showstopper blended with zesty lime and pink grapefruit, a splash of apple brandy and juice of the Queens Group Pineapple, a local variety from Phuket known for its complex, honeyed flavour profile;

The Brown Coconut combines smoky mezcal, fragrant Thai coconut toasted to perfection and sweet, earthy hazelnut for a delicious and warming rendition of beloved tropical flavours. Finally, a range of local and international craft beers, wines, classic tiki cocktails and Champagne round off the list to satisfy every palate.

Helming the grill is Executive Chef Lamberto Valdez Lara, who reinvigorates the classic barbecue with a variety of signature, seasonal farm-to-plate, barbecue-style dishes such as slow-cooked beef briskets, smoked ribs and skewers,

grilled fresh-caught prawns and casual sharing platters for larger parties, alongside a selection of succulent mains: charcoal-grilled burgers, smoked chicken quesadillas, and seared fish tacos.

Those with a sweet tooth will also look forward to Bar.Yard’s indulging desserts, the decadent Brownie Block Party and Fire & Ice S’Mores, and the crisp and sweet Apple Hand Pies.

Music is the soul of Bar.Yard and a curated playlist has been designed specifically for the venue. Patrons can expect an exciting lineup of local and international DJs, playing everything from neo-soul and electro-funk to contemporary hip hop and disco. Kimpton Off The Record, the brand’s global live music series, will also be launched with a local twist in the coming months.

Bar.Yard is open from 4pm until midnight, every Thursday to Sunday. Reservations can be made at +66 (0)2 056 9999 or via email at taste.kimptonmaalai@ihg.com. For more information, visit www.kimptonmaalaibangkok.com/bangkok-restaurants/bar-yard.

  • 7 Things To Do On A Luxury Break In Pattaya

7 Things To Do On A Luxury Break In Pattaya

Situated on the eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand, roughly 150 kilometres from Bangkok, the seaside resort of Pattaya attracts visitors from all over the world. Originally a tiny fishing village populated exclusively by locals who plied their trade in the abundant Gulf waters, it is now one of the most popular tourist destinations in Thailand. There are many luxury resorts in Pattaya today, where you can enjoy fine dining and 5-star accommodation whilst exploring the area at your leisure. In this short guide, we are going to take a look at 7 of the very best things to do during your stay here.

    1. Take a Day Trip to Koh Larn

Despite its diminutive size (roughly 4 ½ km x 2 km), Koh Larn is home to more than half a dozen beautiful coral-sand beaches, where visitors can soak up some tropical rays before cooling off in the crystal clear waters. Just 7 kilometres off the coast, Koh Larn can be reached in 45 minutes by ferry from Pattaya Beach or in around 30 minutes by speedboat. More adventurous holidaymakers may like to try parasailing, undersea walking and jet skiing whilst on the island.

    2. Visit the Art in Paradise Museum

The first interactive 3D art gallery in Thailand, the aptly named Art in Paradise museum is a must-see destination for families on a luxury holiday in Pattaya. The hand-painted, colourful 3D exhibits feature dinosaurs, wildlife and fantasy figures that are sure to brighten your day. Located in the centre of Pattaya, a visit to the museum can be followed by a delicious meal at a local fine dining venue or perhaps a stroll along Beach Road.

    3. Shop at the Four Regions Floating Market

Just off the main Sukhumvit Road that runs from Bangkok to Pattaya, this is said to be the largest manmade floating market in the world. After stocking up on fresh tropical fruits and local handicrafts, you can enjoy an authentic Thai meal in beautiful surroundings at this riverside location.

    4. Explore Underwater World

About a 10-minute drive north along Sukhumvit Road from the floating market is the well-stocked modern aquarium known as Underwater World. Underwater World is divided into five main zones. Three of these – the Coral Reef Zone, Open Ocean Zone and Giant of Siam Zone – can be explored via underwater acrylic tunnels. You can also interact more closely with exotic sea creatures in the Touch Pool Zone and bottle feed young fish in the ornamental Koi Pond.

    5. Tour the Sanctuary of Truth

The Sanctuary of Truth is a museum that was established in the early 1980s but is yet to be completed. The main attraction here is an impressive modern reconstruction of an Ayutthaya-period temple, built entirely from locally sourced woods. Using period-correct construction techniques and materials, the museum has created an incredibly ornate wooden temple that is absolutely breathtaking. The museum’s coastal location, close to many of the best luxury resorts in Pattaya, makes it another must-visit destination for those who choose to holiday in this part of Thailand.

    6. Discover Nong Nooch Tropical Garden

This 500-acre botanical park features a variety of beautiful themed gardens, along with elephant shows and rides, and an onsite restaurant. If you don’t fancy walking all day, you can rent a bicycle to explore the gardens. You can also rent a paddleboat on the lake, from which you can feed the large arapaima fish.

    7. Relax on the Beach

Whichever of the luxury resorts in Pattaya you choose to make your home during your time here, you are guaranteed to be within easy reach of a beautiful tropical beach. On those days when you just want to relax and soak up the tropical sunshine, simply head to your local beach and enjoy.

Whatever you choose to do on your Pattaya holiday, you are sure to have the holiday of a lifetime in this wonderful location.

Anantara Golden Triangle Jungle Bubbles – Helping Elephants

Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort is world-famous for its elephant camp that, along with the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation (GTAEF), was set up primarily to help elephants that cannot help themselves: for those that find themselves, through abuse or through circumstance, unable to provide and maintain an income for themselves, for their mahouts and their families.

Here appropriate activities are designed that allow the elephant caretakers to raise the funds they need to look after the elephants without forcing them into activities they might not enjoy.

The introduction of the Jungle Bubbles at Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort is another world first that can be scaled and shared with other elephant camps to allow them to give a subset of elephants – those that prefer to only meet their mahouts and are bonded into friendship groups – a natural life in a manner that the elephants enjoy without becoming a financial strain on the operations.

  • Six Senses Yao Noi: Wine, Dine & Savour Views Of Phang Nga Bay

Six Senses Yao Noi: Wine, Dine & Savour Views Of Phang Nga Bay

Celebrating a new decade calls for newly crafted experiences and Six Senses Yao Noi sets out to deliver the best cocktail-sipping spot in Southeast Asia. The newly-launched signature venue, The Hilltop, is situated at the highest point in the resort overlooking the renowned limestone karsts of Phang Nga Bay.

Six Senses Yao Noi – The Inspiration

The Hilltop’s innovative new look is inspired by the nest of the Oriental Pied Hornbills, a rare species of bird that makes its home on the island of Yao Noi. From wood and woven bamboo elements to egg-shaped cushions and lamps down to fine details such as the eggshell-textured finishing of the bar, the Six Senses creative team has combined design elements, colour schemes and materials to evoke a bird’s nest perched on a treetop.

Following a four-month renovation period, the expanded facilities include a dining area named The Tasting Room, a chill-out lounge in a bamboo dome and a bar overlooking one of the best views in Southeast Asia. There are daybeds, trampoline nets and a swinging bridge, which reflect Six Senses fun and quirky approach to style and design. The infinity-edge pool has also been resurfaced to complete the fresh new look.

Graham Grant, General Manager of Six Senses Yao Noi, said: “The Hilltop boasts a one-of-a-kind view, but the venue itself is more than just an insta-worthy shot. The overall experience is crafted to be chic and cool, including a ‘chill by day, elegant by night’ dining affair, alongside the warm service culture for which our hosts are so well-known.”

Six Senses Yao Noi – Wine & Dine At The Tasting Room

The dining experience has been updated with sustainability, flavour and hospitality in mind. The Tasting Room is a plastic-free environment sourcing ethical produce. The locally grown, progressive western cuisine follows the Eat With Six Senses ethos of natural ingredients, local and sustainable and less is more.

At the pool, you and your loved ones will be able to indulge in a range of salads and options from the grill while sipping their favourite cocktails and working on that island vacation tan. For casual dining, the newly fitted bar serves crudo, tapas-style, alongside herb-based and locally infused sundowners.

From now through 19 April 2020, stay a minimum of five nights and you will be invited to experience a set menu at The Tasting Room. For pricing or enquiries, please contact reservations-yaonoi@sixsenses.com.
