The Slate Phuket, the whimsical, art-inspired resort on Phuket’s secluded northwest shore, is rolling out the welcome mat for our four-legged friends this summer, with the announcement that you will now be able to enjoy stylish five-star escapes with their dogs. The resort’s new dog-friendly policy means that up to two pooches can experience the life of luxury in a One-Bedroom Pool Villa, Two-Bedroom Family Pool Villa or Two Bedroom Pool Villa – as long as they are accompanied by a well-behaved owner. During their stay, pampered pups will be able to unwind in their beautiful villa, sleep in their own comfortable dog bed, which will be provided by The Slate, and even cool off in their private pool!

The Slate Phuket – Special Attention To Your Pooches

Poop bags will be provided to owners who must take care of their pets’ mess, and while The Slate loves all tail-waggers to be happy and playful, they must also be relatively quiet and under control.

Regrettably, pets are not permitted in the resort’s public areas such as swimming pools, restaurants, the Coqoon Spa and fitness centre. But the soft sands and shallow seas of Nai Yang Beach are just moments away, providing the perfect place for dogs to run, splash and play fetch to their hearts’ content. After such a fun-filled day, every pooch will get a great night’s sleep in their pool villa, with plenty of doggie dreams.

“At The Slate, we understand that for many people, their dogs are an important part of their family. We want to make it easier for every guest to travel and stay in style with their pooches. • 5 Best Islands In Thailand Worth Visiting Now Its Back Open

5 Best Islands In Thailand Worth Visiting Now Its Back Open

Thailand was closed due to COVID-19, but it has lately begun to reopen for tourists. It’s a fantastic place to destress with magnificent beaches, nodding palms, and accommodations within the sound of softly lapping waves. Thailand boasts hundreds of islands, and there is something for everyone throughout the country’s kilometres of coastline, whether in the Andaman Sea to the west or the Gulf of Thailand to the east. The best islands in Thailand are sure to be subjective, but these following Islands offer a diverse variety of superb beaches, ample tourist amenities, and a tropical island atmosphere.

Take a peek and discover which are the best islands in Thailand worth travelling to right now.

    1. Koh Phi Phi

Phi Phi, Thailand’s pride and pleasure, is a group of islands off the coast of Phuket. Koh Phi Phi is easily the first Island that comes to mind when someone discusses Thailand. It’s a Thai island celebrity and possibly a bit overdone, but we’ll leave that up to you to decide.

The islands that comprise the Phi Phi archipelago are sheer heaven. Koh Phi Phi Don is the biggest and busiest Island, offering the most amenities.

However, you may visit the other five islands throughout the day. Each Phi Phi island offers a range of diverse nature. You can find dense woods, beautiful beaches, and crystal-clear water ideal for snorkelling and diving.

But be warned – with excellent beauty comes a slew of party-goers; many people visit Phi Phi for the day and then party on the dunes until morning.

The most notable attraction is Maya Bay on Phi Phi Leh, which was featured in the film ‘The Beach.’ Even if you’ve never been to Thailand, the picture of Maya Bay with its renowned limestone cliffs and gorgeous beach cove is likely to be familiar.

Because the beach and water are often overrun with visitors and boat excursions, be prepared to share the beach and water with others.

    2. Koh Tao

The shore of Koh Tao, often known as ‘Turtle Island,’ is studded with little sandy coves, charming lantern-lit eateries, and diving shops.

The majority of visitors are here to dive.

The Island is one of the best sites in the world to learn to dive. But don’t just take the first diving instructor that comes along. Shop around and you can find excellent prices.

You can complete your PADI or SSI Open Water certification within four days in Koh Tao. This consists of four amazing ocean dives.

Even if you’re not a diver, there’s enough to keep you entertained. Koh Tao has an irresistible allure, not to mention a great nightlife, including the occasional full-moon party.

    3. Koh Samui

The original Thai island is Koh Samui.

Where it once drew backpackers and ravers for its sensational beaches with cheap huts and full-moon parties, Koh Samui has grown into a popular tourist destination. Think of Koh Samui now as a city on an Island.

Honeymooners can choose from super-luxe hotels, beach clubs, and amazing food. Families have a choice of hotels with childcare, splash pools, and Western food.

Koh Samui might be one of the best places in South-East Asia for first-time travellers. You’ll be surrounded by home comforts and lots of things to see and do.

In addition, Koh Samui is known as a yoga and spa destination, even featuring relaxing retreats. There really is something for everyone on Koh Samui.

    4. Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan is Thailand’s fifth-largest island.

The Island is famous for its digital nomad communities and remote workers. Koh Phangan doesn’t have an airport, so you’ll have to fly into Koh Samui first.

It’s easy to understand why the Island is so popular, with its lush vegetation, granite rocks, and white-sand beaches.

Koh Phangan is renowned for the Island’s boisterous Full Moon festivities, which take place every month. Half Moon and Black Moon celebrations, crazy late-night beach parties with fire dancers, and loads of neon are other popular reasons to visit Koh Phangan.

    5. Koh Chang

Koh Chang is Thailand in small, more modest, and quiet than the other islands. It’s an unspoiled paradise with part of the Island being a national park, perfect for jungle hiking. You can easily travel from here to the archipelago’s smaller, remote islands.

It’s also becoming popular with visitors who wish to visit Siem Reap after spending a week in Thailand.

Locals love the family-run Kati restaurant’s in Klong Prao hamlet, where everything is made from scratch with handmade curry pastes.

    Enjoy The Beauty Of Thailand

As you can see, Thailand boasts a plethora of islands and beaches ideal for a holiday. We propose picking a few of these and combining them for a fun Thailand island-hopping vacation.

Keep in mind that it’s occasionally preferable to just remain longer there rather than seeing as many sites as possible.

But, as you can see, you’re spoiled with choice, and making a decision may be difficult.

  • Phuket Re-opens After Pandemic – Top 10 Things to See and Do In Phuket

Phuket Re-opens After Pandemic – Top 10 Things to See and Do In Phuket

For decades Phuket has been one of the most popular island destinations in Thailand, attracting millions of visitors each year. With the disappearance of international tourists for the last 18 months the island’s stunning beaches have once again become pristine, the azure waters teeming with an abundance of sea life and the surrounding islands rejuvenated with lush greenery unseen before. Now the island is ready to welcome back visitors from around the world from July 1st and Anantara has put together a top ten unmissable things to experience on a visit to Phuket.

    1. Go on a walk-through history

Phuket has come a long way from its beginnings as a tin-mining settlement, but with a little imagination, you can almost see the merchants of yore arraying goods inside the ornate Sino-Portuguese shophouses in Phuket Town. Converted into trendy restaurants, guesthouses and boutique hotels, they have since received a new lease on life; many restored to their former glory.

    2. Insta-float amongst giant lilies

If you like your nature to come with a side of strange and unusual, you will love the Ma Doo Bua café. A must-visit destination for botanists and Instagrammers alike, this lakeside eatery is home to a colony of giant water lilies strong enough to hold the weight of a child (or a very light adult).

    3. A bridge to the heart

Ask any older resident of Phuket and they will recount the story of the island’s very own Romeo and Juliet who met their untimely end on the Sarasin Bridge. Connecting the mainland of Phuket and Phang Nga in southern Thailand, the bridge opened in 1967 and is considered by some, the most beautiful bridge in the country. In 1987 it entered the collective memory when the tragic romance between two young lovers was made into a film titled “Saphan Rak Sarasin” (Sarasin, The Bridge of Love). Whether you come here to reflect on life, love or have a photoshoot at the pretty pergola overlooking the river, Sarasin Bridge is guaranteed to make an impact.

    4. Take part in a sea turtle release

Five of the world’s seven existent species of sea turtles – Leatherback, the Loggerhead, the Olive Ridley, the Hawksbill and the Green turtles – can be found in the waters of the Andaman Sea. All are classified as either endangered or threatened. Mai Khao beach is one of the few Phuket beaches that continues to welcome nesting turtles, thanks to the efforts of Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation which focuses on enhanced nest protection and improved incubation conditions. Anantara Mai Khao’s Annual Turtle Release takes place around the Songkran holiday in mid-April and brings the entire community together.

    5. Tipple on the island’s own rum

To explore a more contemporary side of Phuket, head to the award-winning Chalong Bay Rum Distillery. Plan to spend a few hours here as you tour the facilities learning the centuries-old French technique of using copper stills, before joining a cocktail-making workshop centred on Chalong Bay’s pure sugarcane juice rum. Distilled and bottled in Phuket and packed with local botanicals, it skillfully showcases the terroir of the island.

    6. Experience local life

Koh Panyee is a small fishing village built on stilts a 20-minute longtail boat ride from the main island. The local Muslim community are always welcoming and ready to show you around their unique home in the shallow waters. The floating village has a school, a mosque, small souvenir shops, and restaurants. The community are also football mad and have their very own floating football stadium and their love of the game has made them one of Southern Thailand’s best football teams.

    7. See gibbons ethically

Gibbons were poached to the brink of extinction in Phuket’s jungle over 40 years ago. Today, they are illegally kept as pets or used as props in tourist photos feeding the demand for baby gibbons. But there is a way to engage with these gorgeous creatures in an ethical way. Phuket’s Gibbon Rehabilitation Project, a research division of the Wild Animal Rescue Foundation of Thailand (WARF), rescues gibbons and rehabilitates them so that they can be reintroduced into their natural habitat. Visit the centre to learn about the work the centre is doing, as well as observe the animals at the designated viewing areas.

    8. The Man with The Golden Gun Layan Experience

Your mission if you choose to accept it is to enjoy the ‘Golden Gun’ experience at Anantara Layan Residences.  Catch a private jet from Bangkok to Phuket, be whisked by chauffeur-driven limo to the 8-bedroom, Villa Similan, the largest and most luxurious of the resort’s residences. Enjoy martinis (shaken not stirred) by your own private butler before being presented with THE actual golden gun from the 1974 movie. A glamorous yacht cruise around Phang Nga Bay, where The Man with the Golden Gun was filmed, with free-flowing Krug champagne tops off the Bond experience.

    9. Shop till you drop

Phuket’s famous Sunday Walking Street Market on old Thalang Road has something for everyone from secondhand goods, clothes, souvenirs and the best part of it is the amazing array of local food to sample. Even if you aren’t looking to buy, the electric atmosphere and historic setting is guaranteed to charm.

    10. Get back to nature

Take a hike to the island’s last virgin rainforest Khao Phra Thaeo National Park. The rainforest is known for its wide array of birds and wildlife, but the main attraction is the Bang Pae waterfall offering a cool spot to swim after a long hike.

We hope we have gotten you excited for Phuket after the long pandemic restrictions. Visit Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas and Anantara Layan Phuket Resort to explore them for your accommodation needs today.

“In many ways we’re heading back to our roots, with small-seat restaurants and simple home-cooking with a speciality that diners across Asia have enjoyed for generations,” said Trevor MacKenzie, Global Managing Director of Mango Tree and COCA Restaurants Worldwide. “This was the original goal of Khun Pitaya, COCA’s chairman & CEO, who learned the business from his father and made a commitment to quality, innovation and family values. We’re now giving COCA a youthful new look that will appeal to millennials who may not remember the ‘good old days’ but still crave high-quality cuisine and social interaction.”

COCA Pop Up – First Pop Ups Running In Thailand

The first COCA Pop Ups are already up and running in Thailand with outlets open in Hua Hin and Krungthep Kreetha, one of Bangkok’s top residential districts. But this is just the beginning as COCA plans to roll out the franchise concept across the region, with an ambition to open 20 outlets within the next two years through a combination of existing franchisees and new partners.

“These are small, capital-light concepts, that are very well suited to residential districts,” Mr MacKenzie added. “They are perfect for community dining, with customers eating in or ordering deliveries through our digital platform. Good, honest, homecooked healthy food to enjoy share with loved ones.”

COCA Pop Up – Classic Flavours With Modern Twists

COCA opens throughout the day, with breakfast a highlight, with popular morning dishes like homemade congee and giant donuts or patankos proving a big hit. Lunch focuses on wonton soup and noodles with a selection that fuse classic flavours with modern twists, such as bright purple beetroot noodles. Handcrafted dim sum and steamed buns also provide plenty of options for a light lunch or evening treat. And, of course, COCA’s signature suki hot pot features in all outlets.

Since it started with a 20-seat restaurant 64 years ago, COCA has been famous for its suki hot pot style of cooking. This experience will be elevated at COCA Pop Up, with a series of suki sets that comprise a choice of broths (chicken, vegetable, mala, tom yum, and even an indulgent truffle soup), premium meats including wagyu ribeye or sirloin beef, fresh seafood such as tiger prawns and cuttlefish, along with meatballs, fishballs, COCA Boutique Farm’s colourful dumplings and more, all accompanied by a choice of crisp vegetables and fresh noodles. A little more time to spare? Friends can tuck into celebratory Cantonese-style dishes such as whole stuffed duck stew, slow-cooked for four hours.

With many other single and shared plates available, accompanied by delectable desserts and plenty of beverages, from morning tea and coffee to beer and wine at night, COCA Pop Up is an approachable and uncomplicated option for every customer at any time of day, from local residents on their way to or from work, to students or colleagues doing lunch, or families and friends seeking a memorable yet modestly priced evening meal.

Ms Jigger Bangkok – Elegant, Narrative-driven Cocktail Bar & Restaurant

Channelling the elegance of a well-heeled traveller with a soft spot for la sua preferita Italy, Ms Jigger comes to life as a narrative-driven cocktail bar and restaurant. As the connoisseur of curiosities, the venue conjures up inventive cocktail flavours and dining experiences at Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok in Langsuan, the first property under IHG’s luxury boutique brand in South East Asia.

“Every Kimpton restaurant and bar is created to be warm, welcoming and inspiring with incredible cuisine and forward-thinking cocktails. Whether it is menus that celebrate organic, local ingredients, artisanal wine and cocktails programmes, or thoughtfully-appointed interiors with stylish decor, no two venues are ever alike. What unites them is the Kimpton commitment to deliver its heartfelt, human connections, making our award-winning restaurants beloved the world over.” said Patrick Both, General Manager, Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok.

The rich, warm aromas of baking dough crusts, fresh oregano and melted cheese waft through the evening air, a precursor to the tantalising Cicchetti that provide delicious accompaniment to Ms Jigger’s artful drink selection. In the kitchen, famed Italian chef Danilo Aiassa combines the freshest local ingredients with traditional culinary techniques and influences from Piedmont in northwest Italy, where he was born and raised, to create tantalising fare bursting with authentic Italian flavours. In the kitchen as much as he is in the restaurant, Chef Danilo feeds and fuels the ambience with the passion for the food he creates. Made for sharing amongst friends, each dish comes in small tasting portions.

“The vision for Ms Jigger is that of adventure, intrigue and prandial pleasure. From the Kimpton philosophy of sourcing locally to using the freshest of ingredients to make authentic Italian cichettis just right for sharing, the intimate setting of Ms Jigger flows all the way down to the great food and story-driven cocktails” said Danilo Aiassa, Head Chef, Ms Jigger, Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok.

Ms Jigger Bangkok – The Bites

In true Venetian fashion, whet the appetite with a refreshing bruschetta starter of Homemade Ricotta Spianata Romana, toasted sourdough bread slathered with housemade Ricotta cheese, spicy salami and fresh chopped parsley, chased by a crisp Italian white. As conversations take a livelier turn, nibble on Polpette al Sugo Piccante con Pecorino Roman, moreish meatballs with spicy tomato sauce and pecorino cheese, or Arancini Funghi Selvatici e Tartufo, a crispy treat of risotto rice with a hidden kick of wild mushrooms and black truffles in every bite.

Alternatively, select the 24-Month Parma Ham, an authentic hand-tossed pizza served with creamy mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, and succulent slices of parma ham, aged for 24 months for a richer, more complex flavour and perfect for sharing.

Ms Jigger Bangkok – The Bar

In the bar, led by Thai-French head bartender Lorianne Spach, the bar crew are embodiments of Ms.Jigger’s cosmopolitan spirit. Together, they are responsible for creating and delivering exquisite cocktails that immerse drinkers in the stories held within their glasses. The bar’s premium artisanal ice programme, where the crew uses a Clinebell to create pure, diamond-clear ice that is harder and colder than regular ice, elevates the flavours and aesthetics of the cocktails.

The cocktail menu is styled after a vintage map describing the tale behind each captivating concoction. The Terra-Abruzzo paints a dreamy picture of a slow, barefoot wander through an ancestral Italian vineyard; its aromatic blend of Alpine gin, pine liqueur, green chartreuse, rosemary and raspberry oleo evoke memories of late summer days and sun-warmed skin. Meanwhile, familiar cocktails are offered Shaken (lighter, usually with citrus) or Stirred (more spirit-forward).

Bespoke, single-batch and rare spirits collected from around the world line the bar’s back shelves which double up as the ‘Spirits Library’, while a floor-to-ceiling wine cooler brimming with organic, biodynamic and Italian wines takes centre stage under the gaze of the resident sommelier. Elegant spirit and cocktail Tableside Trolleys glide across hardwood floors to deliver the quintessential bar experience to you, while larger carafes and punch bowls serve groups cocooned within the private terrace.
