Unlike ladies, going for an aesthetics treatment for men is often a hushed thing. With the coming of age, there is greater urgency for me to seek a reliable aesthetician that understands my needs and offers treatment with shorter and more importantly unnoticeable downtime. Thankfully, the answer to my prayers came in the form of Dr Justin Boey who runs the Sozo Aesthetic Clinic which is conveniently located at One Raffles Place. Join me as I detailed my experience with Dr Justin and measure the results after 3 sessions of monthly treatment.
Not exactly my favourite part as I often feel vulnerable with someone exposing all my facial flaws. But Dr Justin was great in easing me into the process. His nurses took high resolution images of my existing skin conditions which he studied in details. As I inch towards the big 40, the key priorities brought up by him was to rejuvenate my skin, reduce the appearance of old scars and introduce a rosy glow to my skin.
To obtain my desired results, Dr Justin recommended Fractional CO2 Laser Treatment. The treatment produces thousands of tiny microthermal zones in the treated areas. Each zone is the diameter of a shaft of hair, however these columns extend deep into middle layer of the skin- where scars lie. Laser targets the scarred areas and old collagen, but also leaves areas of healthy tissue to regenerate through collagen production. He also hinted that he might just add in another treatment if this treatment goes well. I was comfortable with his recommendations hence we proceeded with the treatment.
Before going under the laser, one of their friendly nurses will apply numbing cream over every inch of my face. The numbing effect will kick in around within 20 minutes and its a sensation which I gradually got used to. My recommendations is to request for the nurse to go heavy on the cream, the number you are, the less you feel of the lasers.
My initial experience of the laser came as a bit of shock. I could smell barbequed skin and the laser does leave quite a sting.
The sting did get lesser as the treatment continued. I guessed I must have accustomed to it. At this point, I got rather worried on the state of my complexion and if my face had become a glaring patchwork.
Thankfully, the laser treatment was not really visible even immediately after the treatment.
I was tasked to apply this recovery cream for the next two days. I went back to work the very next day as there was only slight redness. Only one or two colleagues asked if I was out in the sun the day before. No awkward moments!
The next visit, I consulted Dr Sau Po Yi and she enthusiastically introduced a new treatment on top of my CO2 Laser. Say hello to INFINI Laser Treatment, a microneedling radiofrequency (RF) skin resurfacing treatment that addresses scars, wrinkles, and sagging skin. She shared that this is one of the best acne scar removal treatments.
This is how it works. A 3-dimensional approach is used to deliver RF energy, which in turn helps volumize scar tissue. It combines the thermal power of radiofrequency with microneedling. Radiofrequency is delivered deep into the skin. The dermis, which is the second layer of skin, contains collagen. INFINI delivers heat energy to the dermis. This encourages the production of collagen and elastin – which in turn tightens scar tissues, improve skin texture, and reduce the depth of scars.
This technique is especially useful for depressed areas on the skin. Since INFINI RF technology uses little needles and deliver heat deep into the dermis and directly targets the inner part of the scar – up to 3.5mm deep. I do have to highlight that the sting from INFINI Laser hurts even more than CO2 Laser. As Dr Sau says ‘Beauty comes with pain’. You just have to clench your fist and get through it.
After 3 months of treatments, it was time to reveal the results through the ‘Before & After’ photos with a consultation with Dr Sau. I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the noticeable improvements through just 3 short sessions (span of 3 months). My old scars are less obvious and my skin has also become smoother, brighter and exhibits a glow through a different angle.
The treatment was just in time for my recent trip to Croatia where coupled with cold weather (away from the hot, humid climate) made my complexion so much better!
Overall I really appreciate the professionalism of my two doctors and the team of nurses at the clinic. The overall results (over the past 3 months) has been good. The cost and downtime were very manageable and I believe I will soon get used to the sting as treatment becomes more regular. Other than the treatments I went for, they also have other treatments such as Subcision Filler, Rejuran Filler as well as TCA Cross Acne Scar Treatment.
