The famed local Teochewconfectionery Thye Moh Chan raises the bar yet again with their collection of handcrafted, flaky-skinned mooncakes this Mid-Autumn. Celebrating 75 years of Teochew heritage and traditional mastery, Thye Moh Chan Mooncakes 2018 is pleased to present a brand new flavour – Red Bean Mochi with Salted Egg Yolk. Of course, it will continue to delight with the perennial favourites such as the Salty Tau Sar with Salted Egg Yolk, Sweet Tau Sar with Melon Seeds, Teochew Classic Double Delight as well as limited edition selections like the Mao Shan Wang Durian and Yam with Salted Egg Yolk. These traditional creations are perfect compliments to the Mid-Autumn festivities.
Since 1943, Thye Moh Chan has continued to preserve and elevate the art of crafting traditional Teochew confectionary. The finest of Teochew pastries are created by meticulously crafting each piece by hand, and it is this authenticity that strikes a chord in the hearts of generations past and present. The handcrafted techniques long upheld by Thye Moh Chan’s veteran pastry chefs are not imitable by any machine, and they are imparted conscientiously to younger successors today.
“Thye Moh Chan is iconic and close to the hearts of many Singaporeans, and we are honoured to be able to play a part in preserving and sharing in the appreciation of Singapore’s Teochew heritage,” said Mr. Vincent Lim, Regional GM for Thye Moh Chan. “By introducing new flavours every Mid-Autumn, we hope to appeal to new customers and let the younger generation reacquaint themselves to the treasured tradition of fine Teochew confectionary.”
Combining traditional and innovative elements in both flavour and design, Thye Moh Chan continually delights both traditionalists and the young with its all-time favourites and new offerings. Sold in either boxes of four or larger individual pieces for selected flavours, the mooncakes are beautifully-encased in elegant pastel packaging with peony flower motifs that represent the rich heritage and tradition that Thye Moh Chan has successfully preserved over the years.
Red Bean Mochi with Salted Egg Yolk – NEW!
Just like the brand’s signature Tau Sar Piahs, these seasonal mooncakes boast light, flaky layers of pastry and smooth mung bean filling, a key feature in Teochew pastries, that is produced after five hours of soaking, steaming, grinding, drying and temperature-controlled cooking. The ideal mooncake is then created with six to seven layers of pastry, with spaces in between for the perfect texture.
In this latest creation by Thye Moh Chan, the subtle sweetness of fine red bean is elevated and cleverly enhanced with soft, chewy mochi, salted egg yolk and melon seeds. The salted egg yolk and nutty aroma of melon seeds balance out the sweet notes of the red bean, culminating in a well-rounded flavour. Classic (4pcs/box) – $38.80
