Chueca Welcomes Summer With Seafood Platter & Spanish Signatures

Chueca, the authentic tapas culture haven in gourmet-adored Gough Street, Central, celebrates the sunny, sparkling charm of summer in Spain with the introduction of a new weekend brunch menu, a lavish evening tasting menu for lively sharing, and a splendid brunch on Father’s Day weekend to salute dad with the bold flavours and colours of Spanish life.

Named for Madrid’s hip, bustling central neighbourhood where anything goes, Chueca reflects this joyful free spirit with plate after plate of creative tapas and beloved Spanish signature dishes embracing the freshest ingredients of the land and sea while rooted in the country’s vibrant and hearty dining tradition. Acclaimed Spanish chef Jordi Vallés Claverol pours his heart into specialities of the capital city and his hometown, Barcelona, with sprinklings of his culinary journey spanning Paris, the Mediterranean coast and China.

The award-winning chef’s new Weekend Brunch Menu (HK$498 per person, 2-person minimum, served on Saturday and Sunday) spans 5 courses of exciting offerings. Adding to the weekend merriment is an indulgent two-hour free-flow option (add HK$238 per person) featuring the bubbly charm of Cava, fine red and white wine, cheery red Sangria, buzz-inducing Negroni and refreshing pours of draught beer.

Leading the way is a magnificent Royal Chilled Seafood Platter. This spectacular mountain of fresh, fragrant fruits of the sea for 2 people to share comprises half a dozen succulent Tiger Prawns, a quartet of invigorating Fine de Claire Oysters, a tangy Ceviche duo enriched with sea urchin, scallop and spicy, citrussy tiger’s milk, as well as sumptuous Tuna Tartare with avocado.

You can choose 2 from a choice of 6 appetisers headlined by Chefs Rusa (add HK$50), Spain’s irresistible potato salad coated in creamy mayonnaise and topped by the dazzling orange glow of Sherry-marinated salmon roe.

Other highlights to prep the palate are Iberico Ham with Tomato Bread, which sees melt-in-the-mouth, acorn-enriched, 50-month naturally healed Arturo Sanchez Iberico ham joined by delicious ripe tomatoes on crunchy toasted crystal bread; crispy Gem Lettuce Salad spiced by paprika vinaigrette and crunchy walnuts; and Crab Roll (add HK$30) in an attractive presentation – claws of the soft-shell crab flank a brioche laden with both white and brown meat, then smothered with crab tartare sauce. Padron Peppers with extra virgin olive oil and Mushroom Croquettes are enticing options for vegetarians.

The main is chosen from 6 delectable choices, including two glorious house signatures. Umami flavours infuse Carabinero Rice (2-person minimum, add HK$80 per person), chef’s in-demand rice speciality studded with scarlet Spanish crustaceans. The secret to this moist, flavourful dish is a base of mirepoix made with onions and extra tomatoes, which is boiled for 24 hours, then enriched with squid sofrito, squid bile and lobster soup. The Spanish classic of Broken Eggs Chorizo, another must-have speciality of the chef, melds fried potatoes, seared Spanish chorizo and fried organic eggs with luscious runny yolk.

USDA Prime Rib-eye Steak is a 2-diner delight for hungry carnivores (add HK$80 per person). A generous cut of this richly marbled beef is pan-seared for tender juiciness and served with triple-fried potatoes and roasted garlic.

Spring Chicken is a half bird roasted with lemon and herbs and presented with homemade fries, while another roast of Ibérico Pork, banana shallots and artichokes features Catalonian Romesco sauce. Rounding off the choices is a seafood medley – Alaska Halibut paired with an energising lobster salsa verde, blue mussels and green peas.

Everyone in the party chooses 2 starters from a list of 6 temptations, including Gem Lettuce Salad, Padron Peppers, Chef’s Rusa (add HK$50) and Crab Roll (add HK$30). Tuna Tartare comprises 2 crackers piled with the diced raw fish, an avocado mash, seaweed and ikura; and a trio of Ham Croquettes is homemade with superior 50-month Arturo Sanchez Iberico ham.

The main enticements also provoke a gourmet dilemma. Sumptuously soft Truffled Beef Cheek (add HK$30 per person) is enhanced by creamed corn purée and shaved truffle; and Octopus & Potato, a Galician-style favourite, is baked in paprika and bathes in alioli sauce. Spring Chicken, Alaska Halibut, USDA Prime Rib-eye Steak (add HK$80 per person) and house signature Carabinero Rice (add HK$80 per person) are similarly irresistible choices.

Dessert for dad and the family to savour on this happy day is a choice between Chef Vallés Claverol’s famous Basque-style Cheesecake, a super-cheesy delight with mixed berry jam, and Ice Cream Popsicles of decadent chocolate- and cacao nib-coated Valrhona dark chocolate ice cream.

Located at G/F, 8-10 Gough Street, Central, Hong Kong, Chueca opens from Monday to Friday at 12noon to 4pm and 6pm to 11pm, and on Saturday and Sunday from 11:30am to 4:30pm and 6pm to 11pm.

  • CHINESOLOGY Invites You To A 1980s Nostalgic Dim Sum Brunch

CHINESOLOGY Invites You To A 1980s Nostalgic Dim Sum Brunch

CHINESOLOGY dips into the past to bring fresh delights to spring with the launch of an exquisite dim-sum brunch experience evoking nostalgia, heightened by a free-flow option that stars the famed Chinese-inspired cocktails of the house. Reviving traditional savoury and sweet fancies of the 1980s with a touch of modern joie de vivre, the opulent Chinese dining destination in ifc mall, Central, helmed by acclaimed culinary expert Saito Chau, celebrates Hong Kong’s golden years of cuisine and culture.

The new weekend brunch captures a nostalgic essence that aligns perfectly with Chef Chau’s culinary philosophy of exquisite presentation, innovative concepts and authentic recipe offerings. His dim-sum creations are a testament to his meticulous craftsmanship, honouring the centuries-old culinary art while incorporating a tinge of innovation. Revisiting favourites from the past five decades, the menu presents cherished dishes that have gradually disappeared from Hong Kong’s culinary scene due to their intricate preparation.

Back to the ’80s Dim Sum Brunch” (served from 12 noon to 3pm, HK$588 per adult and HK$488 for children aged three to 11) begins with Chef Chau’s ‘Five Fortune’ appetiser of five tantalising creations on one inviting plate. A blast of sour-sweet flavours, Free Range Egg Mousse, Vinegar sees egg yolk smothered in velvety whipped-egg foam. Chilled Botan Shrimp, 20-year Huadiao is an umami Shaoxing wine-soaked treat; Hong Kong-treasured Jumbo Razor Clam bears a fiery Chilli kick; and the refreshing Italian Tomato, Seaweed, Vinegar marries tastes of Italy and Japan. A winning combination of pickled Scallion, fruity Roselle and tangy Vinegar rounds off the five taste-bud-awakening bites.

Soup is the house signature Sea Cucumber, Winter Melon, Bamboo Fungus, Carrot Oil, Chicken Oil, Superior Soup, beloved for the richness of its collagen-packed chicken broth and the nutritious boost of the prized marine delicacy.

The main is a choice from a tempting trio of dishes: Lobster, Sergestid Shrimp Sauce, Handmade Rice Flour Rolls, the most luxurious of cheung fun, freshly rolled, steamed and smothered in fragrant sakura-ebi sauce; Free Range Chicken, Wild Mushroom, Lotus Root, Chives, the freshest chicken dish imaginable, paired with vegetables of contrasting textures; and Premium Dried Abalone, Goose Web, Secret Recipe Sauce (add HK$298 per person), a gourmet’s dream – South African 33-head dried abalone stewed with chicken and Chinese ham, then slathered with Chef Chau’s special fish-maw accompaniment.

The free-flow dim-sum selection comprises 11 savoury creations, with four being specially recommended. The chef’s childhood favorite, Siu Mai Quail Egg, receives a healthier twist with lean minced chicken replacing the traditional, oilier pork mince. Siu mai, first introduced during the Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368), holds a significant place in Hong Kong dim sum, and this unique variation featuring quail eggs evokes the charming dim-sum culture of the ’80s.

The story of xiao long bao, a renowned soup dumpling, traces back nearly 150 years to the Shanghai suburb of Nanxiang. At CHINESOLOGY, the culinary team honours this heritage with its Minced Pork Xiao Long Bao dumpling, featuring a thin wrapper (less than 1mm thick) meticulously folded into at least 18 delicate twists.

The Weekend Brunch dim-sum menu also showcases a sensational rendition of Egg Yolk Corn Starch Pudding, a crisp-fried, diamond-shaped delight with a collagen-filled soup centre. This exquisite dish, once a humble street food in Beijing, rose to prominence during the Qing Dynasty court and subsequently became a beloved staple in ’50s-’60s Hong Kong dim-sum establishments. Chef Chau masterfully melds savoury flavours by simmering aged chicken and Yunnan Jinhua ham to create a rich broth, which is then combined with egg and encased in a golden batter. The result is a tantalising interplay of crispy, soft and liquid textures – a culinary marvel that Chef Chau modestly calls ‘bite-sized soup’.

Known for its heart-warming qualities, congee plays an essential part in Hong Kong culinary culture. Chef Chau’s Wild-caught Mottled Spinefoot and 15-year-old Tangerine Congee delivers a delightful oceanic aroma without any overpowering fishy taste. He elevates the flavour profile by infusing the fragrant essence of aged peel from his personal collection. Top-quality tangerine peel, valued for its health benefits, is in limited supply, making it a prized ingredient.

Translucent Har Gow, Tiger Prawn, Minced Pork, and the vegan-friendly Kale, Vegetable, Dumpling – enclosing green goodness instead of the usual prawn – are other delectable steamed treats. The light, multilayered coat of Mushroom, Pepper, Puff Pastry uncovers a savoury spiciness. Other fried wonders are Crispy Shrimp, Spring Roll with carrot and cabbage, and the syrupy crunch of the classic Guangdong village treat of Fried Wonton, Sweet and Sour Sauce (right) – due to the auspicious yuanbao (Chinese gold ingot) shape at its heart, this wonton is typically served at wedding banquets.

You should also try their classics like Steamed Mini Sticky Rice with Minced Pork, Egg Yolk and Lotus Leaves, unveiling a fragrant combination of tender meat and egg yolk wrapped in lotus leaves, while Handmade Rice Flour Rolls, cooked with the chef’s secret recipe for Hong Kong XO sauce, presents an irresistibly umami-packed experience that is not to be missed.

There are eight unlimited dim-sum dessert pleasures including two stellar sweet soups. Tragacanth Gum, Pistachio is the chef’s recommendation, a premium twist on almond or walnut that blends 40 handpicked Iranian pistachio nuts in each bowl and is thickened with natural tragacanth gum, a natural gum from tree sap. Pink Guava, Pomelo, Konjac soup swaps out the usual mango for super-sweet guava, with root vegetable jelly adding healthy texture.

The much-travelled teahouse classic of Egg Tart is another recommendation, made by Chef Chau with Australian full-cream milk and homemade cookie dough in a faithful rendition of the authentic Hong Kong recipe that will evoke memories of the city’s past glories.

Chinese puddings are headlined by Sponge Cake, Sugar, a white, fluffy steamed rice cake typically cut into triangles and bought from hawker stalls of yore. The house recommendation of Black Sesame Glutinous Roll is a ’70s and ’80s dessert tradition that reminds of an old-fashioned film roll; its 18 handmade layers and alluring sesame aroma conjure the spirit of old Hong Kong. Originating from Taishan in Guangdong and prepared like a cupcake but steamed in the bowl then left to cool, Cup Cake, Red Bean, Sugar Cane (right) is a nostalgic, chewy-textured, sweet rush of ubiquitous red bean.

Equally enticing are the chilled delights of luscious Coconut Cake, Split Peas, which resembles panna cotta, and citrusy Passion Fruit Pudding, featuring a velvety texture enriched with healthy chia seeds and coconut milk. Both desserts offer refreshing indulgence.

The “Back to the ’80s Dim Sum Brunch free-flow drinks option at HK$288 per person underscores CHINESOLOGY’s exuberant Tang-ren essence, reflecting the grandeur and glamour of the Tang dynasty when spirited feasts were all the rage, and heady Hong Kong in the booming 1980s.

Three cocktails from the mixology team’s extraordinary collection fusing Chinese tradition with Western techniques are featured. Bamboo Punch(original price HK$128, right) stars Shanxi’s bamboo leaf-infused Chu Yeh Ching Chiew stirred with homemade five-spice cordial and sparkling wine. The West-East vibe continues with Southern Sidecar (original price HK$108), which blends VSOP Cognac with kumquat liqueur and ginger spice. The Florist, featuring Widges London dry gin, homemade jasmine and floral tea syrup topped up with tonic water, is exclusively served at the Weekend Brunch.

Wine lovers can also complement the delightful dim-sum experience with fine French pours: sparkling Saint Louis Blanc de Blancs Brut, and Le Bosq Rouge or Blanc from Languedoc-Roussillon. Those in the mood for mocktails may sip CHINESOLOGY Lemonade (original price HK$90), an effervescent mix of lemongrass, lychee and sparkling water, or The Ruby (original price HK$90), a fruity cranberry, pineapple, orange passionfruit concoction fizzed by ginger ale. Unlimited Herbal Tea and Orange Juice are also available.

“Hong Kong is a vibrant hub of Cantonese dim-sum culture, and we are thrilled to recreate beloved ’80s classics, celebrating the meticulous craftsmanship and personal touch of this culinary tradition,” says CHINESOLOGY Culinary Director Saito Chau “Our new weekend brunch experience aims to capture the nostalgia of traditional teahouses, presenting a delightful setting that brings the joy of the ’80s era to life.”

CHINESOLOGY’s vibrant interiors enhance the carefree mood of brunch, melding the sophistication of grand Chinese mansions with contemporary styling. Plush banquettes and chairs in bold hues, rich textures, a jazzy, chequered floor, and a double row of patterned glass panels dividing the space induce relaxed refinement against the stunning backdrop of Victoria Harbour. Three private dining rooms, each seating 10 people, encourage business entertaining, or social or family get-togethers, in the beating heart of the city.

  • Mondrian Hong Kong: Brand New Design Icon Inspired By People

Mondrian Hong Kong: Brand New Design Icon Inspired By People

Mondrian Hong Kong’s visually striking, innovative and iconic design is inspired. By people. People, like design luminary Karin Krautgartner of byKK Design, and an eclectic selection of inspirational local and international artists who are pushing the boundaries of creativity and imagination.

The hotel’s design lead, Krautgartner ,was inspired by the captivating architecture, breathtaking views unique location of the property in relation to its surrounding water, a recurring feature in the hotel, as well as the rich history of Hong Kong’s lively fishing villages and the renowned tailors who ply their trade in the hotel’s vibrant Tsim Sha Tsui neighbourhood. All this was then interpreted as part of the Mondrian Brand’s positioning being a modern cultural fairytale, sleek & sculptural and an oversized imagination.

Mondrian Hong Kong’s distinctive triangular windows with sweeping harbour and island skyline views formed the concept of each room as a private lookout, offering inspirational vistas and in- tensely personal connections with Hong Kong.

“It is like standing on the bow of a ship and looking out at Victoria Harbour or Tsim Sha Tsui’s unique Neighbourhood,” says Krautgartner. “You can relax and witness the ever-changing elements of the city outside from the comfort of your own cocoon. Every moment of the day or night, sun or rain, is magical in a city like Hong Kong. You’re immersed in the spectacle, the vibrant life of the harbour, the neon wonderland beyond and the mountains framing the scene.”

Krautgartner says the precinct’s exhilarating mix of old and new provided a rich vein of inspiration. The people who really inspired her were Tsim Sha Tsui’s famous tailors, with their sumptuous walls of fabrics, secret techniques and mysterious boxes full of needles, threads, buttons and chalk.

This bespoke culture flows through all of the hotel’s guest rooms and suites; from the geometric perfection of the “curated wall”, inspired by sewing boxes and full of objets d’art and little treasures, to the minibar, concealed in a mirrored pedestal, with a black sewing box on top concealing snacks and amenities.

The theme even continues into the lush bathrooms, clad in exquisite Ceppo di Gres tiles inspired by the pebbled beaches of Hong Kong’s outer islands. Here, the featured piece is an oversized two-piece mirror, stitched together with illuminated optic fibre ‘thread’.

Mondrian Hong Kong – Sensory Arrival & Magical Journey

You can step from Kowloon’s kinetic chaos into the sanctuary of the Lobby, with soaring ceilings and a stunning showpiece glass mosaic of a magical underwater dancers, based on the photography of Christy Lee Rogers. This is a transitional space where you can immediately dive into the world of Mondrian, entering an oversized portal under an arch, where a showstopping glass chandelier is alive with water bubbles.

The fairytale engravings found the corridors, depicting a plethora of fantastical, chimerical underwater creatures, are inspired by Hong Kong’s surrounding water, and the city’s origin as a fishing village and its magical evolution. The lifts with multiple mirrors placed in a triangular formation conjure thoughts of the game ‘Tangram’, a Chinese invention and widely played throughout Hong Kong.

On the 38th floor , AVOCA (which means the meeting of water) is colourful, eclectic, and theatrical. Here, the ‘lookout’ theme is carried to its logical conclusion, with highlights including a DJ desk that seems to float in mid-air, video installations, bold black and white flooring, sumptuous curtains, and murals by cutting-edge local street artists, glass and light art, and spectacular mirrored walls. Simple Bao, a self-taught artist born and bred in Hong Kong specializes in freestyle murals and illustrations. Her stunning piece for MONDRIAN HONG KONG features a water goddess-like figure intertwined with elements from the Hong Kong skyline, reflecting the imperfect beauty of water. And local visionary Wong Ting Fung has created a large scale black and white mural interpreting the views and neigh- bourhood surrounding the hotel

And renowned local designer Joyce Wang has lent her creative touch to the interiors of Carna, the hotel’s flagship contemporary Italian steakhouse helmed by the ‘world’s greatest butcher,’ Dario Cec- chini, with a nose-to-tail concept. Wang’s vision has resulted in a celestial setting that exudes a truly distinctive ambiance. From the elegant marbled ceilings to the opulent curtains and the innovative utilization of lamp-light, every element is thoughtfully crafted to perfectly complement the cuisine and transport diners to a realm of pure ecstasy.

  • Dutch Artist Florentijn Hofman ‘DOUBLE DUCKS’ Bring Joy To Hong Kong

Dutch Artist Florentijn Hofman ‘DOUBLE DUCKS’ Bring Joy To Hong Kong

The wait is over! After a sea-trial at Tsing Yi on May 25th that has captured the city’s attention, the “DOUBLE DUCKS” art exhibition presented by creative brand AllRightsReserved (ARR) and Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman officially sets sail today. The gigantic rubber ducks will arrive at Victoria Harbour and be open for public viewing from 10 June. The exhibition will last about 2 weeks (subject to weather conditions), putting a smile on everyone who catches a glimpse of this delightful sight, warming and healing our hearts while spreading the message of friendship and unity.

Since 2007, Hofman has been taking his gigantic Rubber Duck around the world. During its visit to Hong Kong in 2013, the icon of happiness attracted enormous crowds at Victoria Harbour. On the 10th anniversary of the Rubber Duck’s first visit to Hong Kong, ARR proudly presents the large-scale public art exhibition “DOUBLE DUCKS” project as part of the celebration.

The 18 metres tall “DOUBLE DUCKS”, one of the tallest rubber ducks in the world, returns with a buddy for the first time ever. The duo will be stationed near Tamar Park and the Central and Western District Promenade (Central Section), becoming a part of the iconic Hong Kong scenery with a more spacious spectating area than before. The Tamar Park and promenade have also taken on the Rubber Duck theme. Spot the ducks on signboards, directional signages, railings and glass balustrades on the observation decks. “DOUBLE DUCKS” is made possible with the support of the Hong Kong Tourism Board and lead sponsor Prudential, as well as other sponsors including csl., Ngong Ping 360, VSFG, ZA Bank, and supporting partner the MTR Corporation.

Welcome “DOUBLE DUCKS” Gigantic rubber ducks to swim from Wan Chai to Central

The pair of monumental Rubber Ducks will make their way from Wan Chai to Central to kick off the exhibition at this morning’s ‘DOUBLE DUCKS” officiating ceremony along the promenade’s viewing location. There, the duckie duo will be met by Dutch artist Hofman who returns to Hong Kong for the launch. Joining him to officiate the opening are the organiser and ARR’s founder, SK Lam, Dutch Consul- General Mr Arjen Van Den BERG, Ms Lilian Ng and Mr Lawrence Lam from lead sponsor Prudential, as well as representatives from other sponsors and supporting partners. To generate even more interest, Prudential is distributing DOUBLE DUCKS balloons at 5 districts in Hong Kong to mark the festivities.

SK Lam, Founder of AllRightsReserved says: “’Rubber Duck’ is one of the most well-loved projects among the numerous global art projects we have organised in the past 20 years. People connected with this large-scale outdoor art installation. We were frequently asked, in the past decade, when the Rubber Duck would be returning. We have decided, against all odds, to bring back our old friend, accompanied, to celebrate the ten-year milestone. Our goal is simple – to spread happiness. Without the support from friends and organisations, this mission would not become possible.”

“Double duck is double luck,” said the artist Florentijn Hofman. “The work emphasizes on friendship and getting connected. Due to COVID we learned that spending time together is so valuable. Making moments and memories for real, living in the here and now, are things to cling on to. The digital world and living on our devices make us sometimes so blunted. Art can open your eyes and spark up your soul. ‘DOUBLE DUCKS’ is not about looking into the past but enjoying the moment together!”

“To coincide with our 175th anniversary celebration, Prudential is glad to work with this well-known art studio and bring the Rubber Duck back to Hong Kong. As social and economic activities resume, this project not only celebrates our anniversary but also serves as a focal point to give renewed energy to citizens as they happily gather once again with family and friends. Prudential has arranged a series of celebratory events to share joy with the public, and rally the whole city towards ‘Celebrating Life’.” Lawrence Lam, Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Hong Kong Limited said.

Father’s Day’s Fantastic Cross-harbour Voyage! One Rubber Duck to make its way to Tsim Sha Tsui and meet 3D counterpart

The “DOUBLE DUCKS” surprises do not end in Central! Apart from their Hong Kong side docking, ARR Founder SK Lam has great news for fans this morning. One of the ducks will make a trip to Tsim Sha Tsui on Father’s Day (June 18th). It will swing by Causeway Bay along the scenic Victoria Harbour, and head to Tsim Sha Tsui, passing landmarks such as the Cultural Centre, Avenue of Stars, and K11 MUSEA, to greet fans on the Kowloon shoreline before rejoining its partner in Central.

The voyage of one of the Double Ducks will last about 2 hours, so the public can catch a leisurely view of the cute icon. With support from Prudential, ARR will also display a 3D animation of the pair of cute Rubber Ducks using naked-eye 3D technologies at the Tsim Sha Tsui Ferry Pier, bridging the gap between the public and art, echoing the Rubber Duck making its way across Victoria Harbour.

Hong Kong Easter 2023 – Central

Victoria Peak, otherwise known as The Peak, has always been a must-visit Hong Kong destination for its iconic views and historic funicular railway. But after a major upgrade that was completed last year, The Peak Tram now offers an even more exciting and efficient experience with new, larger-capacity green-coloured tramcars and an array of entertainment zones showcasing the area’s intriguing history and wildlife.

Once at The Peak, be sure to check out Monopoly Dreams, the first Monopoly-themed attraction in the world that features an array of AR and other interactive experiences. Then, make your way to Sky Terrace 428, which at 428m above sea level is the highest viewing platform in Hong Kong. From here the whole family will be wowed by 360-degree panoramic views across the city and harbour, which are impressive morning, noon or night!

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, it’s just a quick tram ride back to Central for a special Easter-themed dining experience. Fans of modern Indian cuisine won’t want to miss Chaiwala’s “SomeBunny Feed Me!” brunch feast (HK$388pp, HK$398pp champagne free-flow, HK$198pp classic free-flow) complete with a trio of chaat for sharing, choice of vegetarian or mutton biryani, a tandoor tower and dosas for sharing, and choice of six curries. A children’s menu is also available for HK$50.

For a taste of innovative Japanese and Peruvian fusion food, head a few blocks north to TokyoLima and its adventurous take on “SomeBunny Feed Me!” (HK$398pp, HK$398pp champagne free-flow, HK$198pp classic free-flow). Designed for sharing, the brunch feast begins with a selection of appetisers including causa and ceviche before moving on to the Weeknd Salad, Edamame Hummus and Pop Ki-Mo-Chi, and finishing with a choice of mains such as chicken katsu with aji panca rice or pan-fried mackerel with potato puree and Nikkei escabeche. Both brunch menus are available 7–10 April 2023 and include an extravagant all-you-can-enjoy chocolate buffet – so be sure to leave some room!

Hong Kong Easter 2023 – Sheung Wan

Close to Central but a world unto its own, Sheung Wan is often referred to as the perfect blend of old and new Hong Kong. Its narrow, winding streets are full of hidden gems and family-friendly activities, with one of our favourites being The Upper Loft indoor golf club. Golf enthusiasts and beginners alike can try their luck at more than 200 international courses through several advanced simulators, or practise their distance shots at the driving bays.

If you’re looking for something to do in the great outdoors, Mount Davis offers an easy and interesting hike dotted with relics of the former headquarters of the Western Fire Command during World War II. The 2.5km (one-way) course follows a paved road on the westernmost hill on Hong Kong Island. Finally, and especially for the little ones, there’s the Children’s Playground at the Central and Western District Promenade. The ship-themed play facility sits right on the harbourfront with views across to Kowloon and offers plenty of space to run, climb, slide and explore.

Sheung Wan is also a hotbed of creative cuisine, with three unique Pirata Group outlets. TMK Punk & Rolls is a lively and fun temakeria that swears by the motto of living life the fun way. This Easter, TMK celebrates with an Easter Free-flow Maki Brunch (HK$248pp, HK$150pp extra for 90 min free-flow beer and sake) with four sharing starters, two temakis and a variety of free-flow maki, followed by signature dishes like kimchi pancake and tuna hotdog, and a choice of dessert between Easter monaka or caramel fried banana.

Modern Japanese eatery Honjo, meanwhile, is welcoming guests to a seafood-loaded “SomeBunny Feed Me!” brunch feast (HK$498pp, HK$398pp champagne free-flow, HK$198pp classic free-flow, kids under 12 eat free) complete with an all-you-can-eat chocolate dessert station. Menu highlights include unlimited sushi and sashimi, starters of fried chicken and wagyu, and main courses of tempura, marinated flank steak and salmon teriyaki.

Roasted and grilled meat specialist Meats has also put its own spin on “SomeBunny Feed Me!” (HK$498pp, HK$398pp premium free-flow, HK$220 classic free-flow, kids under 12 eat free) with a range of tempting starters followed by a choice of burger, rotisserie chicken, crispy salmon bowl, USDA prime ribeye, Argentinian grass-fed black Angus Wellington and much more. And not to be forgotten, the all-you-can-enjoy chocolate buffet!

Hong Kong Easter 2023 – Tsim Sha Tsui & West Kowloon

Just a short ride on the Star Ferry or a quick trip on the MTR from Hong Kong Island and you’ll find yourself in the always-buzzing Tsim Sha Tsui commercial and entertainment district or the up-and-coming West Kowloon cultural district. Must-visits on this side of Victoria Harbour include the new M+ Museum showcasing some of the world’s foremost collections of 20th- and 21st-century visual culture. The Herzog & de Meuron-designed building and surrounding outdoor spaces are worth a visit even on their own.

After admiring the architecture, budding builders should definitely check out Legoland Discovery Centre. The ultimate Lego indoor playground is designed for children ages 3-10 and features workshops, play areas and even Hong Kong’s top attractions built out of bricks. Finally, burn off any residual energy at Kids Kids Car indoor electric-vehicle driving playground. The 20,000 sq ft space has three different themed zones where kids can zoom around and even experience various occupations.

Cap off your Kowloon adventures at neighbourhood Italian spot Pici, which from 5–10 April 2023 is offering two limited-time additions to everyone’s favourite pasta bar brunch. The new specials are available all day and include the lavish Truffle Carbonara (HK$190), a tagliatelle with black truffle, guanciale, pecorino and Japanese egg yolk; and the Coppa Malu (HK$140) a velvety mousse dessert for two made with 70% chocolate, whipped cream and almond meringue. The famous, much-loved Italian treats are available all around the city, with more branches in Lai Chi Kok, Sha Tin in the New Territories but also buzzing Causeway Bay, Wan Chai, and Central amongst other prime locations.

Another must-try Italian Easter dining destination for the whole family is The Pizza Project in Central – check out the two limited-time specials: Down the Rabbit Hole (HK$160), a pizza with a red hot chili cheddar stuffed crust, testa di coppa, black garlic pesto and fior di latte; and Bu-Nana (HK$65), a sweet treat consisting of banana and chocolate ganache stuffed gnocco fritto, dusted with icing sugar.

Hong Kong Easter 2023 – Stanley

Tired of the hustle and bustle of the city? Let’s head over to Stanley for a lovely seaside stroll with your little ones. The Stanley Bay promenade is a picturesque boardwalk overlooking all the small boats parked at the bay – this is a scene you can’t find in other parts of Hong Kong. With a backdrop of colonial heritage buildings, lots of locals come here to walk their pets and enjoy a peaceful afternoon.

Looking for a seaside cafe to enjoy the view? Pirata has got you covered! Located on Stanley Main Street, Pane e Latte will celebrate Easter with spring specials across three weekends from 1–16 April. Feast on Bomboloni al Torroncino (HK$48), a nougat cream-filled doughnut covered in chocolate couverture; the Gnocchi di Pasqua (HK$158), a dish featuring spring vegetables, ricotta and poached eggs; and the Easter Egg (HK$78), a sweet treat made with lemon madeleine, strawberry jam and fromage blanc. A giant, eye-catching Easter basket and eggs will also be installed at the bakery for the ultimate holiday experience.

Easter is an incredible time to enjoy Hong Kong’s fine weather, fun attractions and friendly hospitality. Hop over to piratagroup.hk to start planning your mealtime celebrations and make this year’s holiday your most memorable one yet!
