The smash hit musical that has taken over Broadway, & JULIET is coming to Singapore for a strictly limited season from 21 September to 8 October 2023 at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands. & JULIET will be making its premiere and only Asian stop in Singapore.

With a book by Emmy® Award-winning Schitt’s Creek writer David West Read and music from legendary five-time GRAMMY® Award-winning songwriter/producer Max Martin, & JULIET sees Shakespeare’s most famous love story remixed with some of the most iconic pop songs of the last three decades in an uplifting story of self-discovery, empowerment and love.

& JULIET flips the script on the greatest love story ever told, imagining what would happen if Juliet had not ended it all for Romeo and got a second chance at life and love – on her terms.

Juliet’s new story bursts to life through an addictive playlist of pop anthems by legendary scribe Max Martin and friends, including Since U Been Gone, Roar, Baby One More Time, Larger Than Life, That’s The Way It Is, Can’t Stop the Feeling, plus a brand- new song written especially for the show by Martin.

& JULIET will arrive in Singapore direct from a blockbuster season in Melbourne where critics and audiences alike have been going wild for the show every single night.

& JULIET’S Australian Producer, who is also producing the Singapore season, Michael Cassel said, “We have seen, time and time again, that audiences in Singapore love a good night out and & JULIET promises to do that. This remarkable production, takes decades of Max Martin’s extraordinary hits and wraps them around a hot new take on the greatest love story ever told – creating the biggest party in the city and we can’t wait to party in Singapore.”

Striving to make Singapore the Broadway of Asia, live entertainment company Base Entertainment Asia has always had their finger on the pulse of what audiences want to watch, and has successfully secured and presented many Asia Premieres of renowned international productions here. Chief Executive Officer of Base Entertainment Asia Chantal Prudhomme said that Singaporeans should not miss the opportunity to watch the musical when it is here, before it gets even bigger.

“Singaporeans are not going to have to wait years on before they get to watch this unrivalled production that is ruling Broadway and West End. It’s a story so relevant today, told with such wit and humour, everyone is going to be able connect with it in their own way. And with Max Martin’s iconic songs, not just musical theatre fans but anyone can have a fun and unforgettable time at the theatre with & JULIET,” Prudhomme said.

& JULIET is produced by Michael Cassel Group in association with MTM/Leyline and is presented in Singapore by Base Entertainment Asia under the direction of Chantal Prudhomme. The show is produced on Broadway and internationally by Max Martin, Tim Headington, Theresa Steele Page, Jenny Petersson, Martin Dodd.

& JULIET had its World Premiere in September 2019 at the Manchester Opera House in England, before moving to London’s West End, where it began performances in November 2019 at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London and went on to win three Olivier Awards. The show had its North American premiere in July 2022 in Toronto, where it broke box office records and played to standing-room-only audiences, before heading to Broadway, where it has again broken box office records and played to sold-out crowds. The Australian production of & JULIET premiered in February 2023 at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre.

& JULIET – Our Verdict

To be honest, we were not really expecting & Juliet to be an amazing musical. It has one original song to call its own written by Max Martin – “One More Try” which was performed when Romeo and Juliet meet again for their moon ride across the stage. But the rest of the tracks comprises popular pop songs within a musical, hmmm that does sounds a little lazy on the script writing to us. But we were terribly wrong and we were so glad that we decided to go for the premiere!

The musical cleverly twisted song lyrics to become part of conversations between the key characters and we found ourselves hymning to the familiar tunes that we grew up with. The cast was amazing and their vocals delivered the numbers flawlessly. The musical also delivered a strong message of self discovery, empowerment and love. It will also appeal to LGBTQ supporters.

By the end of the musical, we were so pumped that we wanted to head out to the clubs to re-live our youths again! & Juliet was probably one of the best musical I have watched so far. We definitely recommend going for it!
