603 Tau Sar Piah CNY 2024 – Prosperous with Plenty

603 Tau Sar Piah’s rendition of 好意头 芋头糕 Yam Cake ($28.80), a festive must-have beckoning fortune and an auspicious year, is the product of a long-beloved family recipe. Yam is arduously cut and shredded by hand, then steamed till soft and combined with quality dried shrimps, cured Chinese chicken sausage, dried scallops, and shiitake mushroom. The result is textural delight with each bite — the subtly chewy cake replete with these flavoursome additions alongside tender chunks of yam. The Yam Cake is delicious both in its original form and pan-fried for added crisp. With pride taken in meticulous craft right down to thoughtful packaging, garnishes of cut chilli, spring onion, fried sliced shallots and sesame seeds are packed separately so the toppings stay fresh and may be added in the quantity one desires.

For gifting, a 四季平安 Lunar New Year Gift Box housing four compartments of goodies is bound to delight. A Classic configuration ($50) showcases Classic Pineapple Balls, Shrimp Rolls, Chocolate Chip Cookies and Kueh Bangkit.

The Signature collection ($60) stars 603 Tau Sar Piah family favourites of Signature Pineapple Balls, Chocolate Chip Cookies, Peanut Cookies, and Kueh Bangkit.

The Signature Pineapple Balls are single-bite versions of the Signature Pineapple Rolls, which are light, buttery pastries stuffed with generous helpings of house-made pineapple jam. Malaysian pineapples are selected specifically for balanced sweetness and the textural interest of a more fibrous mouthfeel, then hand-grated and carefully cooked into a perfectly tart, mildly honeyed filling.

The satisfying, buttery crunch of Chocolate Chip Cookies reveal an irresistible marriage of cocoa and roasted almonds — balanced richness with a fragrant, nutty finish. This is another family recipe, guarded for generations.

Peanuts are roasted and shelled by hand for the Peanut Cookies. Enhanced with groundnut oil and a touch of salt, each crumbly cookie crowned with its namesake boasts unadulterated nutty goodness

Crafting the classic Kueh Bangkit is a labour of love; the process involves standing over the stove for hours, toasting flour with pandan to achieve an unparalleled melt-in-your-mouth texture. A delicately crisp exterior dissolves to deliver fragrances of creamy coconut and hints of tapioca.

To celebrate the Lunar New Year, Prosperity Piahs come adorned with a stamp reading “福” (, meaning wealth, prosperity, blessing). These tau sar piahs, individually handmade with special attention and care, are available in a communal size (6”, 15cm) or within an 8-piece gift box (3”, 7.5cm each). A combination of two doughs are kneaded and laminated by hand, thin layers baked to crisp, flaky perfection around luscious fillings of classic salty or sweet mung bean paste.

Heighten the joy of reunions with snacks shared among family and friends. 603 Tau Sar Piah offers a range of 26 classics and popular staples like the addictively savoury Salted Egg Cookies, Arrowroot Crisps fried to golden goodness, and Seaweed Crisps studded with fragrant sesame seeds. There is something for everyone — canisters of crunchy Crabstick Crisps, Cornflake Cookies, Cheese Straws, and more.

603 Tau Sar Piah’s signature handmade pineapple jam also comes in a generous dollop atop pastry specially developed for the open-faced Pineapple Tarts. Decadently moist, perfectly spiced Kueh Lapis is accented by the sweet tang of prunes and bright cranberries in additional prune and cranberry versions. The perennially beloved Kueh Bahulu — light, fluffy, fragrant egg cakes — may be enjoyed good on its own plain, or bedecked with juicy raisins in the raisin variation.
